Program objectives

The Building and Public Works program, specializing in Architectural Techniques and leading to an Attestation d’Études Collégiales (AEC), is based on two fundamental subjects; construction which involves; building science, knowledge of materials and proper procedures required to achieve every element of a building, and drafting which constitutes the instrument by which the Architect or the Civil Engineer expresses his ideas to the client as well as to the contractor who must execute the work.  In addition, the student is introduced to proper graphics language for each: the client and the contractor.

Advantages and benefits of the program

The training is purely technical. Its focus is on learning computer assisted drafting and cutting edge building technology, allowing for immediate entry into the workforce;

The size of the classrooms is kept to a minimum (10 to 12 students per class).  This allows us to ensure that individual attention be given to each student, to follow respective learning procedures emphasizing the importance of communication and autonomy as a result;

After having completed just sixteen (16) months of training (four consecutive sessions) students are ready to enter into the workforce;
The training is first-rate given by highly qualified architects and engineers that are recognized by both l’Ordre des architectes du Québec and l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Teachers favour learning through a realistic, architectural project approach and put students in touch with the everyday workforce (visits to the corporate sector, worksites, lectures);

The college offers its students use of a large drafting room and classes equipped with computers all with cutting-edge technology;
Students are offered employment (part time) as early the third training session as well as small projects in order to promote integration into the workforce;

Graduates entering into the workforce may supplement their training with additional courses at a university level in order to open doors to other positions of a higher level;

The participation of administrative staff helps to ensure regular class attendance.  The college offers a warm and friendly environment while at same time disciplined. The premises are accessible to students at all times.
