Details

This course will introduce participants to the art of reading Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) which are typically used in the chemical and process industries by Engineers and Technologists in the design and construction phase, and by Operations and Maintenance staff once facilities are up and running.

We will discuss various functions of P&IDs and the kinds of information they convey, along with the support documents that are commonly associated with them. The stages of this important drawing during project design phase will be studied along with its general layout, content, symbols, tagging, and simplified explanation of each items. Line types, piping connections and other various sundry items peripheral to the main theme will also be covered. Nitty-gritty aspects of instrumentation and control symbology will also be discussed along with dissection of tag abbreviations. The typical arrangements of various equipment and system will also be presented at the end.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand how the facilities relate to the drawings
